Dentures are a tried and tested method of replacing missing teeth. But for every advantage they offer, there’s also a disadvantage.
They can be tricky to keep in place - even dental adhesive, can't stop dentures from eventually causing sore spots where they rub against the gums. And this creates plenty of nooks and crannies where food becomes trapped.
But perhaps worst of all, dentures are prone to slipping out at the most inopportune moments.
Wearing dentures long-term can also cause jawbone deterioration, leading to difficulties eating, enunciating and - in extreme cases - eventual facial collapse.

A series of small, titanium posts inserted into the jaw act as a permanent anchor for dentures. Titanium is lightweight, immensely strong and biocompatible, so it fuses naturally with the jawbone to prevent further deterioration.
Once the implants have healed, the dentures attach easily and securely by way of a metal attachment. You can remove and reattach them whenever you want, just like traditional dentures.

Dr Buckle will begin by carrying out an in-depth consultation and assessment to ensure you are a candidate for implant-supported dentures.
If you decide to go ahead, our skilled implantology team will insert 2-4 titanium implants into your jawbone to support your dentures. It usually takes 2-6 months for the implants to heal fully.
Once the implants have healed, you'll return to our Wirral clinic for a second procedure in which we expose the implants and fit healing caps. You should wear these for a short time before we affix the abutments - the part which keeps the denture in place. Finally, you're ready to attach the denture.
We'll give you plenty of advice and support to help you look after your new denture. With proper care, it will provide a stable, long-lasting and reliable replacement to traditional dentures.
Clive’s front teeth made him feel embarrassed to smile. As someone who's a bit of a wimp when it comes to needles and drills, I was pleased to discover that this is the first dental surgery I've been to where the treatment genuinely doesn't hurt - a testament to the skill and care provided by the staff.
