The best way to combat gum disease, tooth decay and other dental problems is through routine examinations and regular, professional teeth cleaning. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, not tooth decay.
In our Wirral dental practice, we offer a broad range of treatment options to help our patients achieve optimal health and beauty for their smile.
Our practice is patient-focused. That means we put the patients first, taking the time to listen to their needs and concerns. We provide treatment options and let you choose how to proceed. The treatments we offer can be completed in our comfortable practice by our dentists and specialists.
Routine Dental Care
We advise regular hygiene appointments and dental examinations for all of our patients.
We recommend quarterly 30 minute hygiene appointment, with the fourth appointment being 60 minutes and including your annual examination.
Our hygiene appointments are performed by a professional dental hygienist or therapist who will thoroughly clean and polish the teeth. The hygienist can also offer advice on the best ways to care for gums and teeth on a daily basis. Our staff may also make recommendations about diet, fluorite application and children’s dental care to keep you and your family in optimal oral health.
The hour long appointment will include:
- Full periodontal charting
Periodontal charting provide a graphic description of the conditions in a patient’s mouth, including missing teeth, clinical mobility, pocket depths, bleeding sites, and other deviations from normal. Other conditions that may be charted include erosion, abrasion and developmental anomalies. Thorough charting of both visual and radiographic findings allows dental practitioners to collate information needed to assess the patient’s level of dental and periodontal health or disease.
- Oral Cancer Examination
We will check for any ulcers / legions, cold sores or a discolouration of tissue.
- Wear / TMJ Occlusal Check
Your joints, muscles and bite will be analysed to make sure everything is working OK.
- Scale & Polish
Good oral hygiene is essential to reduce bad breath and reduce the build up of plaque and tartar that can lead to gum disease. You will also be advised on how to brush properly, whether you use an electric or manual toothbrush, and how to use floss and interdental brushes to keep teeth and gums healthy.
- Dental Examination carried out by the Dentist.
The Dentist will be able to detect any early signs of problems with your teeth or gums. Early detection of cavities, broken fillings are easily treatable. They will also provide a new prescription for the next year of dental hygiene appointments.
