Beautiful Gums Are Part of a Beautiful Smile
Many people don’t realize how important the gums are to the appearance of their smile. Some patients have excessive amounts of gum tissue covering their teeth, resulting in a “gummy smile”. Other patients may have receding gums as a result of gum disease, tobacco use, or other medical conditions. Regardless of the reason, we can perform cosmetic gum contouring procedures to enhance the appearance of the smile and improve the health of the mouth.
Gum Lift Before & After
Karyn came to Buckle Advanced Dental Care because she was unhappy with the appearance of her teeth. They were short, uneven and discoloured. We performed a gum lift to recontour the gum tissue and completed treatment with a combination of dental crowns and porcelain veneers to correct the wear on her teeth and improve her smile.
About the Gum Lift Procedure
A gum lift will deliver dramatic results which reveal more teeth than gum for an instant smile lift.
This procedure often involves the use of an advanced dental laser. Laser gum remodeling is a painless and simple technique that can be used to address a low or uneven gum line by reshaping and corrected the tissue. The treatment works by removing excess gum tissue, sealing the gum as treatment progresses so no stitches are required.
A gum lift is commonly used in conjunction with other cosmetic dentistry treatments such as porcelain veneers, dental crowns, or teeth whitening. Gum reshaping is an ideal treatment choice to correct small, crooked or misshapen teeth to create a beautiful and balanced smile.
Soft Tissue “Gum” Graft
Another procedure that we perform is soft tissue “gum” grafts. These are typically indicated for patients who have inadequate gum tissue surrounding the teeth, typically a result of gum disease or trauma to the gum tissue.
We harvest donor tissue (connective tissue graft) from the mouth and transplant it to the affected tooth. The gum graft is placed it over the exposed tooth or root and allowed time to heal.
The success rate of gum graft procedures is entirely dependent on the patient, the shape and extent of the gum recession and the post-op care. Healing will be compromised in smokers or tobacco users.
Before & After Gum Graft Treatment
This patient had localized gum recession as a result of orthodontic treatment (braces). The exposed tooth root was causing extreme tooth sensitivity. We performed a gum graft to cover the exposed tooth and improve the appearance and overall health of the patient’s smile.
